Through a series of unusual events, Sarah Connelly and her family found the perfect lot— the land right next door to her husband’s parents, in a long-established Mount Pleasant neighborhood. Back then, one design/build team set to work sketching out the house the Connelly’s dreamed of, but it’s one thing to design a house for a very specific lot. It’s another to actually build it.
They ran into one big issue— the town wouldn’t approve their plans. “It wasn’t buildable,” Sarah says, adding the expense of revision and re-permitting added up quickly. “At some point, we just had to realize that their team we had did not know what they were doing.”
But Sarah knew who could. She had heard of New Leaf’s Build on Your Lot program, and she was even able to find the perfect plan for them, which we call the Roxy.
“Roxy checked all the boxes,” she said, providing a first floor Master and a second ground floor bedroom to make parenting their toddler (another baby’s on the way) easier.
One of our most popular floor plans, the Roxy maximizes space throughout the home. Featuring an open living/kitchen area with a focal point island, downstairs master bedroom and bathroom, and an additional first floor guest room/home office with a full bathroom. Upstairs you’ll find two bedrooms and a huge loft area, which the Connelly’s use as a playroom.
When we visited, the home was beautifully decorated for Halloween, with lots of fun fall decor inside and out.
“We wanted to build a home we can grow into because there is simply no way we could find this great a situation anywhere else. Family next door is everything, and in this case they come with an established neighborhood, old growth trees and a real sense of home.”
Working with the New Leaf team, she said, was easy and even fun. “They understood local restrictions, were able to navigate all the challenges of COVID, and made the most of our site,” she says.
The New Leaf team helped the Connelly’s realize their dream of living near family in an established community, definitely making a good situation even better.
