Custom Build in Rushland Plantation

Coastal Lifestyle along the Stono River

Published July 15, 2019

Along the banks of the Stono River on Johns Island lies a somewhat hidden community called Rushland Plantation. Driving in off of River Road, the neighborhood feels  nicely secluded behind an expansive marsh and creek beds, but opens up to some truly beautiful coastal architecture.

Near the corner of one of the cul-de-sac streets, beside one of the many ponds in the community, lies one of the custom builds we completed in this neighborhood, designed by Darryl Cobb of Cobb Architects, an award winning architectural firm in Charleston. Cobb worked within a narrow lot by adding side-load garages, so the garage would be able to allow a vehicle to pull in easily.

The home is an elevated construction, with twin porches on the front, and a rear patio on the back, both overlooking the pond beside the house.

It has a great layout. The clients were awesome, I actually grew up with both owners and went to high school with them.  All together, this build was as rewarding to us as it was to the owners.

One of the fine touches of Rushland Plantation is it’s amenities and waterfront lifestyle. The amenities area includes a pool and clubhouse, playground, park, and a long community dock that stretches out across the expansive marshes and out to the Stono River, for easy access to boating and fishing.
