07/18/2016: Homeowner Interview Number 2

Q: Why did you decide to build a home?
A: Building a home allowed us to get exactly what we wanted. We did not want a large home, but with a large family it is important for us to live efficiently. Building a home allowed us to accomplish that.

Q: How did you find New Leaf Builders?
A: Finding the neighborhood, Bohicket Oaks, was our first step in choosing New Leaf. We loved the small community that offered access to the water. We were familiar with New Leaf and had seen their beautiful construction of many homes in the community.

Q: Why did you choose New Leaf Builders to build your new home?
A: New Leaf Builders has an amazing reputation. Several friends had built homes using New Leaf and they only had positive things to say. They assured us that they enjoyed working with all the people at New Leaf and had a beautiful home as a result. We felt we would be taken care of and guided through the process of building our home.

Q: What did you like most about working with New Leaf Builders?
A: The house was built ahead of schedule, we were so excited everyday to stop by the project and see the advances.

Q:How would you describe the process of working with New Leaf Builders?
A: It was easy and fun. Stress free!

Q: Did the project manager do anything above and beyond expectations?
A: Alan was very responsive, he was available to us and our MANY questions. It was really nice to be able to call or text Alan and hear back from him in a timely manner.

Q: When you walk in your house, how would you describe what you feel?
A: Our home has a modern farmhouse feel; it is a very comfortable place for our family.

Q: What is your favorite feature in your new home?
A: We love our shower! With two shower heads all the kids can shower at the same time.

Q: When you think of the word “home” what comes to mind? How does your New Leaf home deliver on that?
A: Home is a place that memories are made. Our home is a comfortable place that allows for easy living.

Q: How did the New Leaf Builders team deliver on your expectations?
A: The New Leaf team did what they said and stood up to their word.  They went above and beyond to get us into our home in a timely manner. They went above and beyond to make sure we were happy with the final product.

06/10/2016: Homeowner Interview

Recently we completed the Watson’s custom build home in Clearview neighborhood on James Island. The Watson family was a pleasure to work with and we are thrilled that they have moved into their new home.

Q: Why did you decide to build a home?

A: It was time for more space for our little family. We had been in our brick ranch in White House Plantation for nearly a decade – much longer than we thought we would! After we looked around at the existing homes on James Island, we were lucky to find a lot that would work, and give us the opportunity to build something that was uniquely our home from the ground up.

Q: How did you find New Leaf Builders?

A: Through friends and acquaintances. We are Clemson Tigers and so are Grant and Jennifer Zinkon. We had also heard about the homes they had been building in Eagle Wood near the JIYSC soccer fields and in other areas, and were impressed with their work and building approach. We trusted Grant and New Leaf to build a house that they would be proud of.

Q: Why did you choose New Leaf Builders to build your new home?

A: They build a quality product and we trust them. We looked at a few of their houses too.

Q: What did you like most about working with New Leaf Builders?

A: They were easy to communicate with and they are very responsive. I knew we were going to get a great home and never worried that they would cut corners or not treat this build as if it was their own home.

Q: Did the project manager do anything above and beyond expectations?

A: Our project manager, Will, was attentive, honest, and extremely helpful. Between Grant and Will, we could get honest opinions on everything. There are a ton of choices in building a custom home, it’s helpful to have suggestions about what would look good and experiences from what they have had.

Q: When you walk in your house, how would you describe what you feel?

A: I feel at home and happy.  Right away, we felt comfortable. We had been in the house throughout the build and picked out nearly everything, so it quickly felt like home.

Q: What is your favorite feature in your new home?

A: There are so many aspects I love – from the open kitchen and living area, to the master bathroom and shower, to the front and back porches where we’ll spend a lot of our time.

Q: When you think of the word “home” what comes to mind?

A: A home isn’t just a house – a home is a place where your family and friends can be together and create memories.

Q: How did the New Leaf Builders team deliver on your expectations?

A: They exceeded our expectations.

James Island-based New Leaf Builders headed by Grant Zinkon and Adam Baslow, focuses on “low impact” developments that try not to disturb the environmental footprint.  “Our primary goal in designing Fox Hollow was to modify the land as little as possible, so that a natural, healthy ecosystem remains intact,” says Joshua Robinson of Robinson Design Engineers, a civil engineer. The property has been left as natural as possible, clearing only enough land for the houses and roadway, according to the builder.  “One of the core values at New Leaf Builders is to maintain the natural integrity of any area where we build,” said Baslow, co-owner, builder and developer for New Leaf Builders.

06/18/2013: A Decidedly Different Development

The development, currently under construction just off the Western end of Woodland Shores Road, will be the site of one of the Lowcountry’s few and James Island’s first “low impact developments” when completed. New Leaf Builders and the site received further commendation earlier this month, when the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) designated the development as a “Certified Wildlife Habitat.” Clearly, if New Leaf is going for the exception to the rule, they have started well.
